A Philosophy and a Set of Actions

Good Tilth to you!

Good Tilth means healthy soil, and is a friendly greeting among farmers who know the importance of a healthy soil ecosystem to growing vigorous crops. If soil is healthy, there are structures to deliver resources like water and nutrients to where they are needed. If not, plants wither from lack of access or become bloated from rot.

Imagine nonprofit programs as plants rooted in the soil of our community. Are your programs and initiatives growing and healthy? Or are they stunted and stagnant? My role as a trusted advisor to small nonprofits is to examine the soil and correct any problems so resources like money, people, and ideas can flow freely to programs, and they can thrive.

Your donors and supporters care deeply about your mission, and fundraising is a conduit connecting their passion with your action. This is why my work is never transactional in nature, but based on relationship-building, because today’s harvest feeds us today … but it also contains the seeds for tomorrow.

My holistic fundraising philosophy is informed by the principles of Community-Centric Fundraising (CCF), a newer modality of fundraising which is rooted in social and racial justice. In its second year of existence, CCF is exploring ways in which to apply principles of social justice to daily fundraising within npos and philanthropy.

I am proud to be associated with this movement and you may find examples of my written and multimedia content on their hub at https://communitycentricfundraising.com

Because we are creating new ways of fundraising, and we wish to center our work around the communities we serve, our process is flexible – instead of a traditional consulting arrangement, our process will be explorative and iterative, creative and collaborative.
